GLF Schools

GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

Ofsted

We are pleased to announce the successful outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection which confirmed Windmill Primary School has maintained its Good rating.

The inspector found that pupils at Windmill Primary School describe our school as a “warm, welcoming, and inclusive school”. There is a strong sense of teamwork and shared aspirations, leading to high standards. Pupils are enthusiastic learners who arrive “keen to learn, dive enthusiastically into all that is on offer, and leave each day brimming with ideas”. They are also rightly proud of their school.

The inspection reflects the ongoing commitment of Windmill Primary School to providing a high-quality education for its pupils. This report clearly indicates that the school continues to operate at the standard of Good, which it was judged to be before September 2024.

Windmill nurtures confident, enthusiastic learners who are well prepared for their next steps in education. This is rightly valued by parents, as one parent said:

“My children are thriving here”.

The report highlights several key strengths of the school:

  • Rich Curriculum and Dedicated Staff: Dedicated staff support all pupils to benefit from a rich curriculum enhanced by a range of trips, experiences, and clubs.
  • Love of Learning and Impressive Behaviour: Pupils develop a love of reading, enjoy their learning, and their behaviour in lessons and around the school is impressive.
  • Strong Early Years Provision: Children in Nursery and Reception make a strong start to their education. Staff skilfully interact to promote children’s curiosity and engagement with meaningful learning through play.
  • Effective Teaching of Reading: Regular training ensures staff are skilled in teaching phonics, and pupils make strong progress to become fluent readers with a rich vocabulary.
  • Positive School Ethos: Pupils value the school’s ‘Rights Respecting’ status, a UNICEF award, which promotes respect throughout school life. They develop consideration, tolerance, and genuine respect for each other and the wider community.
  • Support for All Pupils: Teachers typically ensure that disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are well supported, enabling them to achieve across the curriculum.
  • Focus on Well-being and Wider Development: Staff prioritise pupils’ health and well-being, and the extra-curricular programme fosters a love of sports, the arts, and the wider community.
  • Effective Safeguarding: The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

Nicola Cotter, Headteacher of Windmill Primary School, said, I’m delighted that this latest inspection has highlighted and reflected the excellent work of all our staff and pupils. We are so proud of all the achievements and to be recognised for the high standards we consistently maintain is wonderful. I would like to thank the whole school community, including the GLF School Support team, for their hard work and ongoing support”.
