Our Reception Puffins have been busy continuing their exploration of the harvest theme. The children have enjoyed role-playing as they create their own food bank lists and gather items from our home corner to donate. They’ve also been engaging with numbers through subitising—using their fast eyes to recognise how many items there are and exploring which items are bigger or smaller than others.
As maths magicians, they’ve had fun discovering patterns and shapes in their environment. They even went on a shape hunt around the classroom, identifying different shapes and discussing their features—like recognising that a triangle has three sides and three pointy corners. Additionally, the children have expanded their understanding of shapes by creating their own pictures using 2D shapes. It’s been a wonderfully enriching experience!
The children have been eager to discuss positive relationships in class and share who their special person is in their family during our PSHE lessons. They expressed their thoughts and feelings during our circle time, fostering a sense of connection and understanding within the group. It’s heartwarming to see them reflect on the importance of relationships!
