'What's The Perimeter Of A Leaf' - Year 4 Measure To Find Out

In Year 4, the children have been learning about perimeter and have explored this in a variety of ways. They have used string to measure the perimeter of leaves and were able to sort them based not on size, but on the length of the leaves’ perimeters. This caused them to find some leaves that appeared to be quite small but had much longer perimeters than other larger leaves. They also used string to make shapes with equal perimeters.

The excitement has also left the classroom, and some children have found enormous leaves on their walks to and from school, with some leaves with perimeters measuring longer than a metre!
